ABS is a pale yellow, granular or bead-like opaque resin that is non-toxic, odorless, and exhibits low water absorption. It boasts excellent overall physical and mechanical properties, including superior electrical performance, wear resistance, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and outstanding surface gloss—plus it’s easy to process and mold into various shapes. However, its drawbacks include poor weather resistance, limited heat resistance, and flammability.
ABS plastic combines the desirable properties of its three constituent components: Component A provides resistance to chemical corrosion and heat, along with moderate surface hardness; Component B imparts high elasticity and toughness; and Component S gives the material the processing and molding characteristics typical of thermoplastic plastics, while also enhancing its electrical performance. As a result, ABS plastic is an easily accessible, versatile material with excellent overall performance, low cost, and a wide range of applications—making it a "tough, rigid, and durable" choice for many industries.
